In 922 A.D., Ahmad Ibn Fadlan, a cultured and educated diplomat from Baghdad, is sent on a mission to meet the King of Saqaliba. His journey takes a dangerous turn when he is captured by a group of Vikings, a fierce and unruly band of warriors. Unlike the refined world Ibn Fadlan knows, these Vikings live a life driven by primal urges for food, drink, and women. Despite their crude ways, Ibn slowly grows to respect their warrior spirit and is accepted into their tribe by their leader, Buliwyf. But when they receive news of a terrifying invasion by savage, flesh-eating invaders, Ibn is forced to fight alongside the Vikings in a brutal battle for survival against an unstoppable and fearsome enemy.
